The Kjustendil sanatorium

Kjustendil is a district centre that managed to preserve its ecology. Here, favourable conditions are well combined – a moderate altitude of 525 m, fertile land, healthy climate and hot mineral springs. The nature in the vicinity of the town is enchanting with the variety of geographic forms, with rich flora and fauna. Extremely picturesque with Ruen, 2251 m, as the highest peak, is the Osogovska mountain. In the winter, there are heavy rains and the snow cover is convenient for winter sports.
Very near is the Zemenski gorge of the river Struma, with magnificent rock formations and the Skakaviški waterfall, with a height of 70 m.
There are three mineral baths in Kjustendil, the oldest one was built in 1566.
The combination of the numerous effective resort factors determines Kjustendil as a multi-functional resort in which the following complaints can be treated:
1. Diseases of the locomotory system – acute joint rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, Behterev’s disease, arthrose (exostoses), epicondylitis and periarthrites.
2. Diseases of the peripheral nervous system - discopathy, radiculitis, plexitis, polyneuropathy of the limbs.
3. States after injuries and fractures of the bones, burns and plastic surgery.
4. Gynecologic diseases - inflammatory, sterility in men and women.
5. Intoxications with heavy metals - lead, quicksilver, etc.

The Kjustendil sanatorium offers 56 beds in rooms with their own baths and toilets; of these beds eight are in six apartments, a dining room with 40 seats, a hall with twelve seats, a unit for physiotherapeutic procedures. Balneotreatment with mineral water on the spot – showers and tubs.

Hisar sanatorium

The Hisar sanatorium is in the Hisar resort, having national and international renown, situated some 45 km to the north of the city of Plovdiv, in the skirts of the Sredna gora mountains. The altitude is 365 m, the climate is mild, moderately continental, with many sunny days during the year, with an average yearly temperature of 11,90 Ñ, allowing the use of the resort throughout the year by patients and holiday-makers.
There are convenient railway and coach lines for traveling around the country.
The Hisar sanatorium is situated amidst parks with large green areas and tranquility, with crystal-clear fresh air, without any pollution, in close vicinity to an ancient Roman southern gate, called Kamilite (the Camels) and the Momina salza mineral spring. The sanatorium consists of four joined monolithic buildings, three of them being used as a hotel. The buildings have two floors each, with terraces for every room. There are 120 beds. The rooms have two or three beds, with their own baths and toilets. The sanatorium is open all the year round, offering modern conditions for treatment and for holiday making. Near the sanatorium are the Archaeological Museum, the post-office, the Resort Policlinic, the Balneotreatment facilities, the mineral swimming pool with a water slide, places of entertainment, beautiful surroundings suitable for picnics, tourism, hunting and fishing. The sanatorium can be used both for recreation and for restoring people’s health.
There is permanent, round-the-clock medical care by a specialized medical team. Physiotherapeutic consulting rooms are available with a full array of electro- and light-treatment, laser therapy, musicotherapy, paraffin therapy, herbal therapy, therapeutic gymnastics, fitness and massage facilities.
Recreation and treatment can be performed also by whole families, with children, making use of an additional bed; organized rest for groups can be practiced as well. The sanatorium offers good facilities for holding seminars, refreshment courses, training of specialists, birthday parties, etc.
The Hisar mineral water in its chemical composition and physical properties is characterized as hyperthermal, slightly mineralized, alkaline hydrocarbonate-sulfate-sodium, with some contents of metasilicon acid, radon and fluorine.
Complex resort factors, the intake of mineral water and the therapeutic methods applied at the sanatorium successfully heal diseases of the urinogenital system such as kidney stone disease, chronic cystitis and pyelonephrites, postoperative states after the removal of stones and after extracorporeal lithotripsy, diseases of the digestive system such as chronic gastrites and ulcer of the duodenum, colites, constipation, etc., diseases of the liver and the gall-bladder such as chronic hepatites, gall-bladder stone disease, dyskinesias of the gall ducts, chronic cholecystites and post-operative states after the removal of the gall-bladder; metabolitic diseases and diseases of the internal secretion glands such as mild and moderate diabetes, gout, obesity, chronic pancreatites; diseases of the locomotory system and the peripheral nervous system such as discopathies, radiculites, exostoses, arthroses, post-traumatic states, etc.; diseases of the male and female sexual systems such as sexual weakness, sexual disturbances, sterility, chronic adnexites, prostatites, etc.
The intake of mineral water facilitates the discarding of the heavy metals and radioactive elements accumulated in the human body, and it also has an anti-allergic effect. Treatment with mineral water in combination with the resort factors and the therapeutic methods at the sanatorium positively influence post-stress states and strain as well.
