For entertainment, jubilee or tourist travels, BDZ EAD offers different kinds of compositions of retro trains, depending on the clients’ preferences. Included in the retro-train can be a steam or a diesel locomotive, French retro-coaches, coaches from the Corona Express and Vitosha Express trains, as well as recycled second-class “” coaches.
· The three museum French coaches restored have 72 seats each and a moving buffet;
· The luxury train Corona Express consists of coaches specially produced for Tsar Boris III, Tsaritsa Ioanna and Price Kiril in 1938 in Germany, a salon-coach with 40 seats, a kitchen wagon, a dining car, a wagon for transporting cars and salon-coaches. The authentic furniture from the period before World War II has been preserved. With its perfect running potential, the train offers maximum traveling comfort.
· The Vitosha Express luxury train offers: two luxury sleeping cars combined with a salon for accommodating and servicing 10 passengers; two coaches of the apartment type with a kitchen salon and the necessary equipment; a coach with special apartments with in-built bathrooms and toilets and a separate bed compartment for two people; a dining car with 36 seats with a working kitchen; a switchboard wagon for telephone conversations. The train has an autonomous electric power system, an air-conditioner, audio-video equipment and a wagon for the carriage of cars.
In 2004, the operative museum rolling stock of BDZ EAD took part in 25 entertainment and special tours, with steam locomotives No 01.23, No 15.215 and No 609 fully restored and functional. Also taking part in the tours were 17 cars – including 4 salon coaches and 9 freight wagons of various series. These travels were carried out on the following lines: Dimitrovgrad – Momčilgrad – Podkova (102 km ), Mezdra – Sofia (88 km ), Sofia – Ilijanci – Jana – Musačevo – Kazičene – Sofia (53 km ), Pleven – Jasen – Čerkvica (50 km ), Levski – Loveč – Trojan (83 km ), Plovdiv – Stambolijski – Peštera ( 46 km ), Bansko – Belica – Jakoruda (33 km), Aldomirovci – Beli breg (11 km ) and in the area of the Sofia railway joint. The total number of kilometers covered in these travels, together with the distance that the museum rolling stock had to pass from its depot to the above-mentioned routes is approximately 4500 km. Planned for 2005 is the restoration of another two steam locomotives and several coaches and wagons, because of the unfailing and even growing interest towards entertainment, tourist and special travels using retro rolling stock on the railway network of Bulgaria.
