Ticketing with portable computers in five more trains along Mezdra – Sofia line
19/10/2009

“Bulgarian State Railways” EAD broaden the scope of one of the mot recent services – on-board ticketing with portable computers. Among the advantages of this technology are the enhancement of revenue collection in the most heavily populated trains, implementation of modern ticketing and statistics technologies as well as acceleration of the work of train personnel.

The pilot implementation of the new computer technology was launched at end-September in three regional trains along the route between Mezdra and Sofia. This is one of the most heavily used suburban lines. There are eleven unmanned halts between Mezdra and Sofia where ticketing is not offered and the passengers, who get on the train from such unmanned halts, buy their tickets on board of the train itself.

This week “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD launch the second stage of the pilot implementation of computer ticketing. Five more regional trains between Mezdra and Sofia will be included in the pilot project.
