Changes in the passenger tariff of BDZ EAD enter into force as of 9th December
04/12/2007 - 04/12/2007
The changes in the passenger tariff of “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD will enter into force together with the new train timetable, i.e. on 9th December.
The average raise of passenger fares is 9.97%. This raise is mostly valid for the fares for fast and express trains at medium and long distances. The tariff change is based on the improved quality of service, achieved with the commissioning of rennovated coaches and the step-by-step commissioning of specialized bar- and buffet-coaches in these categories of trains. The change in the prices of railway passenger services follows the changes in the prices of other transport modes. Even after the raise, the railway fares remain competitive to bus fares.
As has been already announced, “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD will keep unchanged the fares for the most widely used segment of the passenger service – the journeys at short distances. This segment includes fares for urban services; in suburban areas around Sofia and Plovidiv, where zone fares are applicable, and the other journeys by regional trains at distances of up to 20 km. The fares of these types of services remain unchanged. In this way, the railway carrier responds adequately to the transport needs of ithe majority of its customers – the coommuters and students, who travel daily at short distances.
“Bulgarian State Railways” EAD keep unchanged the prices of all railway passes, which entitle their holders to different discounts. The fares for seat and berth reservation in couchette and sleeping-cars also remain the same.
The railway carrier offers other types of discounts as well for return journeys, journeys in small or larger groups, etc. The customers of “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD will continue to make use of these offers in 2008 as well.
