The new train timetable enters into force as of 9th December
04/12/2007
The new train timetable, proposed by “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD and developed by the National Railway Infrastructure company, enters into force as of 9th December. The railway carrier has envisaged within the new train schedule to continue the replacement of current train compositions with rennovated coaches and to replace step-by-step the current EMUs with the new electric train-sets of Siemens.
The current status of railway infrastructure in the coutnry does not allow a significant enhancement of traffic speeds. The average route speed of express trains is 65.2 km/h, of fast trains its is 54 km/h, while of regional trains it is 41.5 km/h.
The schedules of passenger trains have been coordinated with the municipal and regional authorities so as to satsify the transport needs of the customers. One particular example in this respect is the change in departure time of the morning fast train No 8610 from Bourgas to Sofia, which will now leave 50 minutes later as per the request of the customers and the municipality of Bourgas.
In the new train timetable have also been improved the connections between trains at junction stations. With a view to passenger comfort and in compliance with the trends in passenger flow, were established new connections between fast trains in the railway stations Gorna Oryahovitsa and Rousse. This will facilitate journeys from Northern to Southern Bulgaria.
The schedule of freight trains is compliant with the needs and production capacities of freight customers. The average route speed of loacl freight trains has been slightly improved due to organizational and technological enhancement.
