Another window pane of a Desiro was cracked by stones

On Monday (5th March) one more new Desiro of “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD was attacked with stones. The incident occurred at about 17:05 between Momchilgrad and Kurdzhali stations.
A side window pane was heavily cracked in result of the vandal act. No passengers or railway personnel were contused. In result of the timely intervention of Transport police officers, who were traveling in the train, the underage offender was detained.
The costs, incurred by “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD, for the replacement of the cracked window pane amount to BGN 10 000. At least three days will be necessary for the repair of damages, inflicted by the stone attack, and during this period the train-set will be out of operation.
The most significant aspect of such vandalism, though, is the risk for the life of the customers and personnel of “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD. The incident on Monday was the twelfth stone attack against the most modern trains of Bulgarian railways.
The management team of the company is considering a change in its transport and tariff policy in the regions, where such attacks against the new trains occur most often. This measure will be enforced in response to the everyday vandalism, to which the railways are subjected. The railway carrier will rely upon the cooperation of regional and municipal authorities for the undertaking of particular measures for the prevention of attacks against trains.

Only in the course of the first two months of this year fifty-seven windows of passenger trains, operated by “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD, were broken or cracked with stones.
